Diwali, also called Deepavali or Deepawali, is the Hindu festival of lights, with variations celebrated in other Indian religions such as Jainism and Sikhism. It symbolises the spiritual victory of Dharma over Adharma, light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.  Observed over five days (Begins Monday, Oct 20, 2025), Diwali includes rituals such as lighting oil lamps, performing prayers, sharing sweets, and exchanging gifts. Homes are cleaned and decorated, symbolizing spiritual renewal and prosperity. Foods range from savory snacks to sweet treats, often prepared with rich spices like cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves. Diwali is also a time for family gatherings and community celebration, offering an ideal opportunity to integrate herbs into cooking and beverages, enhancing both flavor and holistic wellness during the festive season.


Diwali, is celebrated with vibrant meals, sweets, and family gatherings. While delicious, the rich foods and sugar-heavy sweets can challenge digestion and energy. Integrating herbs into meals, desserts, and beverages provides balance, supporting both physical health and mental clarity during this busy festival. Herbal tonics can be served alongside meals, while spices can be incorporated into sweets or savory dishes to enhance digestion and circulation.

Warming Diwali Spice Tea


Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water

  • ½ tsp ground cardamom

  • ½ tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ground ginger

  • 1 tsp tulsi (holy basil) leaves

  • Honey to taste


Instructions:

  1. Simmer all spices and tulsi in water for 10 minutes.

  2. Strain and sweeten lightly with honey.

  3. Serve warm before or after meals to support digestion, energy, and immunity.
