While tea is a winter staple, there’s a whole world of warming herbal drinks to explore. These beverages not only chase away the chill but also deliver concentrated wellness benefits.

Golden milk, made with turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, and your milk of choice, is anti-inflammatory and deeply comforting. Herbal hot chocolate, infused with cinnamon, cayenne, or even medicinal mushrooms like reishi, offers a decadent yet healing treat. Mulled cider with cloves, orange peel, and star anise provides both immune support and seasonal cheer.

For a caffeine-free morning boost, try roasted dandelion and chicory root “coffee,” which supports liver health while offering a rich, roasted flavor. Adding adaptogens like ashwagandha or reishi powder to your drinks can help the body cope with seasonal stress.

To deepen the healing, consider layering adaptogenic and restorative herbs into winter drinks. Ashwagandha adds grounding energy to golden milk, while schisandra berries bring a tart, liver-supportive twist to mulled cider. Holy basil (tulsi) in hot chocolate offers both stress relief and an uplifting spirit. These herbs not only enhance flavor but also help balance mood, energy, and immunity during the long, dark months when the body craves warmth and calm.

Adaptogenic Golden Milk

  • 1 cup milk of choice (dairy or plant based)…try Pistachio Milk for an extra creamy drink

  • ½ tsp turmeric powder

  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ginger powder

  • Pinch black pepper

  • 1 tsp honey

  • ½ tsp ashwagandha powder

Warm milk gently, whisk in spices and ashwagandha. Simmer 5 minutes, then remove from heat. Add honey before serving.

These drinks turn hydration into an act of self-care, providing both warmth and nourishment in every sip. They’re also an easy way to bring herbs into your daily routine without feeling like you’re “taking medicine.”
