Winter brings its share of immune challenges, and herbal syrups are among the tastiest and most effective ways to stay resilient. Elderberries are rich in antioxidants and have long been valued for their antiviral properties, while rosehips are packed with vitamin C and bioflavonoids that support immune and skin health. Together, they form a powerhouse of winter defense.
Syrups are also easy to prepare and enjoyable for adults and children alike. The slow simmering process extracts both flavor and medicinal compounds, and honey acts as a natural preservative and soothing agent.
Making your own syrup connects you to the rhythm of the season—it’s an ancient practice that transforms humble fruits and herbs into a daily elixir of wellness. Use it at the first sign of a cold or as a preventive tonic throughout the winter.
Elderberry & Rosehip Immune Syrup
1 cup dried elderberries
½ cup dried rosehips
1 tbsp dried ginger root
1 tsp cinnamon chips
4 cups water
1 cup raw honey
Simmer berries and herbs in water for 45 minutes or until reduced by half. Strain, cool slightly, and stir in honey. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 months. Take 1 tablespoon daily for prevention, or 1 teaspoon every few hours if symptoms begin.
