Bone broth is one of the most ancient and nourishing remedies, valued for its ability to support joint health, digestion, and immune resilience. Made by simmering bones—often with herbs, vegetables, and spices—over a long period, bone broth extracts minerals, collagen, gelatin, and amino acids that the body can easily absorb.
The collagen in bone broth supports the integrity of joints and skin, while gelatin helps soothe and repair the gut lining, making it beneficial for digestive health. Minerals like calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus help maintain strong bones, and amino acids such as glycine and proline support detoxification and tissue repair.
Incorporating herbs into your bone broth can enhance its medicinal value. Add thyme, rosemary, or oregano for antimicrobial benefits; ginger for digestive warmth; or astragalus root for immune support. Bone broth can be sipped warm from a mug, used as a base for soups and stews, or even cooked into grains for added flavor and nutrition.
Making a big batch of bone broth in autumn and freezing it in portions ensures you have a go-to source of deep nourishment all winter long. It’s a simple yet powerful way to feed both body and soul during the colder months.
Bone broth pairs well with thyme, rosemary, sage, and parsley. These herbs not only deepen flavor but also contribute antimicrobial, antioxidant, and mineral-rich qualities that enhance the broth’s nourishing base.
